BOGOTA – The oldest woman in Colombia, Ciriaca Maria Zapata, died in the city of Valledupar, capital of the northern province of Cesar, her family said Monday. She was 116.
Ciriaca Zapata was born Sept. 23, 1898 in Los Tupes, a village of the San Diego municipality near Valledupar.
Her granddaughter said, "She said her grandmother’s longevity could be attributed to eating healthy food and to her good character, which helped her live a peaceful life."
“She ate pork, rabbit, organic chicken, vegetables, everything, but all natural – no processed foods,” Mindiola said, also recalling that her grandmother “was a person loved by everyone, who never fought with anyone, and that also influenced her quality of life a great deal,” she said.
